One of the first things I'm trying to work out when I meet a new student isn't what they can get right. It's whether they feel comfortable enough to get something wrong.
I know what that feels like because I was that kid. My family split up, I moved between states and my grades started slipping while everything else felt pretty shaky. What helped wasn't another worksheet. It was a tutor who was funny, patient and never made me feel stupid for asking something twice. He just kept turning up.
That's the tutor I try to be now.
When I'm teaching, I'm watching for the flat look, the frustration creeping in, or the moment the work becomes too hard — or too easy. When I see it, we adjust. Sometimes that means slowing down and rebuilding something underneath before moving forward.
That's how I get to know the student in front of me and build the learning around them, rather than expecting them to fit a program.
I'm a qualified NSW primary teacher with current NESA accreditation and WWCC, offering 1:1 online maths and English tuition, primarily for Years 3–6.
I currently have a few spaces available. If you think this sounds like your child, send me a message and we can organise a free first session.
